The Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the University of Ioannina (UOI) welcomes students with special needs (SWSN) and, with the support of the Employment and Career Structure and the Accessibility and Social Support Unit of the UOI, makes every possible effort to ensure their equal active participation in all academic procedures concerning our students.
The Department has appointed a SWSN Professor-Advisor who helps create appropriate and successful communication between the student and the teaching staff, aiming to reduce difficulties that may arise during studies, provide high-quality education, and offer incentives to minimize potential dropout risks. A secretary staff member has also been appointed to inform/support SWSN on Department/School matters such as student registration, procedures and deadlines for submitting documents, exams, information, and updates for SWSN. The Department records SWSN to map and identify their needs regarding their individual characteristics and study conditions to design appropriate intervention forms and optimize existing strategies and educational training practices for skill acquisition suitable for their professional career. For providing support to SWSN regarding potential integration and adaptation difficulties in new environments and procedures, as well as difficulties in attending taught courses, writing assignments, written exams, understanding, and processing textbooks and multiple bibliographies, the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications has incorporated the "Teaching Strategies/Behavioral Rules" Guide for supporting SWSN at the University of Ioannina into its procedures.
