Organization

The Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Ioannina is based in the city of Arta. The department operates in two modern buildings on the Kostakioi University Campus in Arta. With over 500 active students, 18 faculty members, a postgraduate and doctoral study program and 4 research laboratories with doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications is an active hub of knowledge production and opportunities for young people seeking a successful career in the field of Informatics and Telecommunications. The Department is committed to provide high-quality education to its students, in accordance with the institution's quality policy.

The primary goal of the Department is to develop intense research activity in modern areas of Informatics and Telecommunications, and to participate in national and European research and development projects to attract external resources.

The Professors of the Department have a large number of works published in top scientific journals, have developed significant international collaborations with related departments abroad, and participate in the scientific committees of internationally renowned journals and conferences.
The professional rights of the Department's graduates are equivalent to those of graduates from similar Departments at Greek Universities.


Department Authorities

The Department Authorities are The General Assembly and the Chair of the department. The Assembly is composed of the Department's professors and representatives of the Special Technical Laboratory Staff (ETEP), the Special Scientific Laboratory Personnel (EDIP), and the department's students. The dean of the school and the chair of the department is Professor Euripedes Glavas.

For efficient academic and administrative functioning, the department forms advisory committees. The members of these committees are appointed by the department's Assembly, based on recommendations from the chair. The committees include, but are not limited to:

  • Postgraduate Studies Program Committee (S.E.M.S.)
  • Doctoral Studies Committee
  • Departmental Internal Evaluation Committee (OM.E.A.)
  • Departmental Research Committee

Building Facilities and Laboratories

The Department has modern facilities (both building and laboratory) for teaching as well as for serving other needs such as research, training seminars, etc. Specifically, it includes the following:
  • Main building
  • Secondary building
  • Laboratory room in the Floriculture building
  • Use of the Library facilities (reading room and printing center, located adjacent to the Secondary building).
All spaces are accessible to individuals with mobility impairments, and provisions are made (on a case-by-case basis) to facilitate individuals with special needs.

In the main building, there are:
  • One Auditorium (A) and two Lecture Halls (B) and (C).
  • Conference and Teleconferencing Room
  • 3 Research Laboratories and
  • 4 Teaching Laboratories
In the building, there is the Department's Secretariat, professors' offices, and the department's computer and network infrastructure room (computer room). Both the main Auditorium and the two lecture halls are equipped with computers and modern visual presentation systems. Students of the Department have access to modern UNIX computing environments, as well as a sufficient number of personal computers, all connected to the Department's network. Students are trained in fully equipped laboratories for computer science, databases, electronics, telecommunications, networks, logic design, and computer architecture. All laboratories are equipped with computers (15-20 per room) and visual presentation systems. Finally, the Department's infrastructure is complemented by the facilities of the research laboratories.

The Auxiliary building of the department has 7 Laboratories, offices for professors and teaching staff, and accommodates the campus network management center.

This room is used for the 'Computer Architecture' course laboratory.

The aforementioned laboratories are supervised by the department's Laboratory and Teaching Facilities Committee. They mainly serve the laboratory activities of the 64 courses of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications.
