The third cycle of studies of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications includes the completion of a doctoral dissertation (Ph.D.), in accordance with the provisions of Law 4485/2017 and the Regulations on Doctoral Studies. (ΦΕΚ
642/τ.Β΄/27-02-2019).
The purpose
The Doctoral Program aims to promote knowledge and original scientific research, to train and educate, according to international standards, new scientists to produce documented, original research results and to acquire the ability for independent and autonomous advancement of science.
Duration
The time duration for obtaining the Doctoral Degree is at least three (3) full calendar years from the date of appointment of the three-member Advisory Committee. The maximum time for completing the Doctoral Dissertation is set at six (6) full calendar years from the date of appointment of the three-member Advisory Committee. Any deviation from these time limits is decided by the Department Assembly, following a proposal by the Steering Committee.
In special cases, the prospective doctoral candidate may, upon application to the Department Assembly, request a suspension of studies for consecutive or non-consecutive periods, which cumulatively do not exceed one (1) full calendar year.

The department offers opportunities for the completion of high-level doctoral dissertations, through a modern and comprehensive Doctoral Studies Program. The approved regulations, outline the structure, operational rules of the Doctoral Studies Program (DSP) of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, as well as the admission requirements for it.
The department announces positions for doctoral students at the beginning of each academic semester. The announcement is open throughout the semester (for the fall semester, the application deadline is until the end of February, and for the spring semester, it is until the end of June). The scientific areas, the number of positions per area, and any specific requirements are determined in the announcement.
The Department Assembly, after considering the submitted applications, categorizes them based on the relevance of the research subject, and appoints a three-member committee consisting of department faculty, per application category. The Department Assembly, taking into account the performance in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, academic recommendation letters, the opinion of the proposed supervisor, and considering the memo of the Doctoral Studies Committee, either approves or rejects the candidate's application with justified reasoning. In case of a positive decision, the Department Assembly assigns the proposed supervisor to oversee the Doctoral Thesis and appoints a three-member Advisory Committee according to Article 39 of Law 4485/2017. Those accepted acquire the status of Doctoral Candidate.
