The Evaluation Report is prepared by the Internal Evaluation Team (IET) of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications with the aim of presenting, analyzing, and evaluating the Courses of the Department by its Students. The Department of Informatics and Telecommunications (DIT) has been undergoing a transitional stage since September 2019, due to its integration into the University of Ioannina (UOI) and the creation of a new undergraduate program (BSc). During this transition, the challenges are significant, as the Department is called upon to effectively manage two undergraduate programs, one postgraduate program (MSc), organize the new Doctoral Program (PhD), continue to produce quality teaching and research, and align with the processes of the new University.
The aim of the new undergraduate program is to provide students with a modern and comprehensive education so that upon completion of their studies, they will have acquired a broad foundation of both theoretical and applied knowledge in the fields of Computer Science, Networks, and Telecommunications, as well as essential skills that will make them competitive in both domestic and international academic and professional environments. The undergraduate program seeks to equip students with technical knowledge, analytical thinking, ethical responsibility, and leadership skills to enhance their ability to approach problems and make effective decisions, given the multiple changes and the speed at which information technology, networking, and telecommunications technologies are evolving.
The Internal Evaluation Team (ΟΜ.Ε.Α.) of the Department has taken responsibility for ensuring the quality of the Department's activities, which include the educational process, research work, and administrative procedures. Ensuring the quality of the educational process is a particular challenge at present, as new courses have been incorporated into the curriculum. The new courses should provide comprehensive material available to the students, which the instructors are called upon to gather and create, while also being connected with coherence and harmony to the other courses of the new undergraduate program. Based on the above, the need for feedback from the perspectives of the students themselves for each course individually becomes more pressing than ever before. Moreover, the fields of Informatics and Telecommunications are evolving rapidly, requiring continuous vigilance and updating of the content of the offered courses as well as the undergraduate program itself.
The present report aims to highlight any issues that students may face in all aspects of a offered course, from the curriculum taught, the materials and literature provided, the teaching method, the method of assessment and grading of students, to the performance of the instructors. The conclusions of the report take into account the Department's Objectives for the current academic year, the Objectives of the Institution, as set by the Quality Assurance Unit (ΜΟΔΙΠ) under the guidelines of the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (HQAA).
